LG 47SL9000 LED TV Review

The LG 47SL9000 is one of the most technologically advanced HD TVs available on the market at the moment.
It offers a near-perfect marriage of form and function and if you can afford the premium that you will pay for the cutting edge technology then this LG LED TV should be a real consideration.
Slimline Panel for Easy Wall Mounting
The LG 47SL9000 has a 47 inch LCD screen and LG are world renowned for the quality of their technology.
What makes this particular TV special is that it is just under 3 centimetres thick. This is made possible because it utilises LED lighting technology, positioned around the edge of the screen.
This makes the LG 47SL9000 ideal for wall mounting as it will sit virtually flush to the surface of the wall.
Help Save the Planet with this LED TV
The LG 47SL9000’s LED technology also allows for energy saving operation because LEDs use far less energy than comparable lighting solutions used in HD TVs in the past.
LG claim that the LG 47SL9000 uses just 40% of the energy of other LCD TVs and there is even a dedicated button on the remote to access the energy saving mode.
LG also claim that this will actively help you to save money on your electricity bill.
The LG 47SL9000 also features a sensor which will automatically adjust the settings of the TV to cope with changing light levels within the room, though this is by no means a unique capability.
If you do want to save energy you will have to sacrifice brightness and other image enhancements and for many this will not be something to give up with any haste.
Latest in Borderless Design
The LG 47SL9000 incorporates a borderless design, which means that when the TV is off the screen and the edge will be indistinguishable. This makes the LG 47SL9000 look like a piece of modern art when mounted on a wall.
Overall whether you wall mount or use a stand the LG 47SL9000 is undeniable one of the best looking HD TVs out there.
Full HD 1080p LED Backlighting for the Best Blacks
The quality of the image produced on the LG 47SL9000 is also what you would expect from such a high end product.
It supports Full HD 1080p so you will get the most out of HD TV broadcasts, HD video games and Blu Ray movies.
There is also an impressive 3 million to one contrast ratio which allows deep dark blacks and bright whites to shine out of the screen.
Bluetooth plus USB DivX Connectivity
The LG 47SL9000 also boasts a whole range of connectivity. As you might expect there are 4 HDMI inputs for all of your high definition sources.
There is also a USB port which can allow you to watch downloaded DivX videos as well as view pictures and listen to music from a USB storage device.
The most impressive function is the Bluetooth connectivity which the LG 47SL9000 offers. If you have a Bluetooth mobile phone you can upload pictures to view on the screen.
The best function which Bluetooth connectivity makes available is the wireless headset compatibility. This will allow you to watch and listen to the LG 47SL9000 without disturbing others if you have a Bluetooth compatible wireless headset.
Final Thoughts
To conclude, the LG 47SL9000 offers real competition to the Samsung LED TVs which came out earlier this year.
Though it has none of the networking capabilities of Samsung’s products, it performs well in virtually every area available and doesn’t have the potentially damaging ‘touch of colour’ design that put many off Samsung’s LED sets.
Note:
The 47SL9000 model is supplied to some retailers as the 47SL9500 LED TV.
If you are shopping at Dixons, Currys or PC World the 47SL9500 model in their showrooms or online is the same as the 47SL9000 LED TV in this review. There may be some a slight cosmetic difference in the televisions but they have exactly the same specification.
