This LED TV from Samsung is available in two colour finishes:
UE40B7020 which comes in Platinum Black bezel finish.
UE40B7000 which comes in a Rose Black bezel finish.
They are the same telly with the only difference being the cosmetic finish to the outer casing or bezel of the flatscreen television.
Different stores will sell either the 40B7020 or the 40B7000 model.
Please take note of this when buying online as the model that you saw in a store such as John Lewis (UE40B7020VW) will have a different colour bezel than the one supplied by Dixons (UE40B7000).
For the purposes of this review we shall refer to this particular model as the UE40B7020.
The UE40B7020 LED TV is a 40-inch, 1080p HD TV from Samsung. It is unusual in its use of LEDs to illuminate the TV picture. Whilst these have been used on TVs in the past, Samsung has cleverly positioned the LEDs around the edge of the screen and has somehow evenly illuminated the screen with them from there. The advantage of this arrangement is that it means that the LED TV can be whisker thin, as a result it is a quite stunning and very elegant TV.
Stunning Design – Only 1.2 inches thick
The stylish design of the UE40B7020 LED TV will appeal to many people. However, it will be especially useful for those people who want a large screen TV, but have limited space. It comes with a sturdy glass stand, but it is very easy to attach to the wall and if you do that it will intrude into your living space as much as a wall-mounted picture would, so not much at all!
Happily the UE40B7020 is not a case of style over substance and it is as practical as the next TV, as it has 4 HDMI ports on the back for all your HD devices. It does cheat a little for DVI, scart and composite ports as these require special cables, but it is not a big problem.
Connect to the Internet – Yahoo Widgets – Watch films direct from External Drive
Aside from its looks the other major attraction of the Samsung UE40B7000 LED TV is its ability to stream media directly from the internet. Included in the TV are applications called Yahoo Widgets. These small pieces of software allow you to get live updates on the weather, the latest news, or stock prices, as well as plenty of other online content.
One excellent example is the ability to watch photo slides of pictures from online sources such as Flickr.
As well as this online functionality the 40B7020 can also show music, video and photo content from an external source, such as an mp3 player, external hard drive (via a USB 2.0 port), your home network, or a memory card. This is a wonderful feature if you have a lot of videos stored on your computer or external hard drive, as you will be able to watch them on your TV.
Stunning Picture – Low Running Costs
Even with all these extra features the viewing experience is not compromised, with Mega contrast for all those shades of grey, 1080p 24p real movie mode for watching films how they are supposed to be viewed, 100Hz Motion Plus to remove edge blur and Wide Colour Enhancer for vibrant colour, making for stunning true to life images.
As well as SRS Trusurround HD and Dolby Digital Plus for great sound. Samsung should also be commended for the UE40B7020 LED TV’s green credentials, as it is more energy efficient than a normal TV (giving you a smaller carbon footprint) and is completely free of nasties such as paint spray and mercury.
Conclusion
Overall the Samsung UE40B7020W LED TV is a beautiful and elegant HD TV that uses new technology to make it incredibly slim, yet not compromising on the quality of the images and the viewing experience it creates. The online and media streaming features will be very exciting additions for many people and are surely the future of interactive TV.
